A MASTER napkin folder from Bournemouth has celebrated the life of HRH Duke of Edinburgh with the reissuing of a special design called 'Prince Consort'.

Luigi Spotorno, who has created a number of Royal designs over the years, wanted to send his condolences over the death of Prince Philip.

"I recall having met him on a few occasions during my career as a hospitality manager in London," said Luigi. "With this design, I wish to celebrate the life of Prince Philip.

"This beautiful napkin folding design was presented to Prince Philip, at the time of the Queens Golden Jubilee - the appropriate name for the devotion to his wife and Queen."

Luigi has devised hundreds of new folds during his career including a Royal Orchid design for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 and the Diamond Jubilee Crown to mark the Queen’s 60-year reign in 2012.

He also created a design in 2018 in honour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

The former hospitality manger, who was born in Italy but has lived in the UK for more than half a century, is an expert in the art of napkin folding and has even written a book on the subject.

He even joined forces with the Daily echo to show, on our website, how to fold one of his creations.

On that occasion, Luigi said: "The way they lay a table with the knives and forks has been the same for 500 years.

"It will never change but I realised the one thing you could change was the way the napkin looked, so every day I re-folded it to a different shape, to make the table look more welcoming.”

He moved to Bournemouth from Harrow, and has devised hundreds of designs.
