I WAS a naval cadet at Bournemouth School. One year we visited Portsmouth and slept for one night in hammocks on board HMS Vanguard, the last British battleship.
The Vanguard came to Bournemouth one summer and fired a gun which we heard in Kinson.
Does anyone know the year that Vanguard was at Bournemouth?
With the answer to that I will know how old I was at that time, I am now 78 (and going strong).
Instead of the navy I ended up in the Merchant Navy for seven years and later served in Vietnam with the US Army. A sailor and a soldier.
