A MAIN road in east Dorset was closed earlier today after a two-vehicle crash led to a car ending up in a ditch.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the A31 near the Merley roundabout shortly before 11.30am.

The collision involved a Mini Countryman and an Audi A7.

There were reports of heavy traffic back to Canford Bottom roundabout on the westbound carriageway and past Lake Gates roundabout on the eastbound carriageway.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 11.19am on Friday, April 23, to a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A31 westbound near to the Merley Bird roundabout. The collision involved a Mini Countryman and an Audi Q7.

"It is reported that the Mini was in a ditch. There were no reports of any injuries sustained by the occupants. Recovery was requested for the vehicle.

"The road was closed while emergency services were on the scene. It reopened at around 12.45pm."

Two fire crews from Wimborne and one from Poole attended the scene following a requiest from South Western Ambulance Service.

No firefighting action was taken and the fire service left the scene at 11.39am.
