THE FOUNDER of an afro-Caribbean events planner is excited for the return of normality after being unable to host events during the pandemic.
Sabz Sabawi, founder and CEO of Island Ting, a Bournemouth based afro-Caribbean events company, had to put his popular events on hold due to lockdown restrictions.
Island Ting events share "carnival and fun, family vibes" on a nationwide and local basis with a selection of DJ’s and entertainers.
However, coronavirus restricted what Sabz could offer party-goers.
He said: "Lockdown was very difficult as when we could hold events, we were really restricted in numbers. We had to invest in a lot more equipment, including the plastic dividers between seats. We had to take everything new onboard.
"The lockdown period has been stagnant and it was almost like a reset button. It’s been difficult.
"But, lockdown has given me more time for the business and made me realise that one of my big achievements is that I built up a brand during the coronavirus lockdown."
Despite the difficulties faced in the past year, Island Ting events remain popular.
Sabz said: "We have a massive following; it’s gone from really small to really big. We sell out a lot of events and the brand is going from strength to strength.
"We're coming up to two years of being a business, so we are celebrating with a boat party in Southampton in June, Covid-19 restrictions permitting."
