AFTER A brief four-week comeback last December, the Regent Centre is announcing their re-opening plans with a 2021 BAFTA and Golden Globe winning line up of films from June 4 and the return of live shows from July 29.

Opening on the big screen in the recently refurbished theatre compete with comfy seating and new surround sound is Nomadland, the multi award winning film starring Frances McDormand.

The theatre on High Street, Christchurch, have also started assembling a programme of live shows from the end of July, and plan to thank key workers and their families with discounted tickets.

Regent Centre General Manager Matthew Vass-White said: “Our Christmas opening went really well so we were understandably disappointed when the time came to close again.

“In a survey to the near 3,000 visitors during that month, the overwhelming feedback was that our customers felt safe, relaxed and immersed in a sense of normality again for the first time in many months.

“We’re delighted that subject to the next two government phases running as predicted, we’ll be able resume performances again and slowly reintroduce other services within the building as the rules become clearer.

“It’s inevitable that there will be a period of adjustment as we all get used to new ways of enjoying indoor entertainment for a while, but we have a very detail-oriented team on board to make sure that everyone has a great time.”

Also playing in the first week will be Sound of Metal, another hit on the Golden Globes, BAFTA and Oscar circuit this year starring Riz Ahmed in the lead as a drummer adapting to hearing loss, told in a cinematically unique way.

In addition, a third brand new big screen film addition to the opening week is family favourite Peter Rabbit 2.

The weeks to follow will feature a strong season of films including Olivia Coleman and Sir Antony Hopkins in The Father plus the long-awaited musical In the Heights starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The Regent Centre is also taking bookings for live shows taking place from Phase 4 onwards and well into 2022, with the opening live show being the Highcliffe Charity Players with Treasure Island.
