COASTGUARD crews were tasked to help a person in “extreme pain” in Kimmeridge Bay.

A person had a suspected broken arm between charnel and Broadbench in the bay.

A spokesperson for Kimmeridge Coastguard said: “Team paged at 4.39pm to assist a person in extreme pain with a suspected broken arm between Charnel and Broadbench in Kimmeridge Bay.

“On arrival, two team members made their way to the casualty to provide immediate casualty care.

“South Western Ambulance also arrived shortly afterwards and were escorted by further coastguards to the casualty for further treatment and administer pain relief.

“Back up was provided by our colleagues at St Albans Coastguard Team whilst an extraction plan was discussed and put in place.

“Due to the person’s condition and the distance to effectively carry the casualty back by stretcher across very slippery rocks, it was decided to task rescue helicopter 175 from Lee on Solent.

“Both Swanage lifeboats were out training and so proceeded also.

“With the tide now coming back in and with the risk of helicopter downdraft close to the cliff face, rescue 175 landed on Broadbench, some distance away to drop off their paramedic to assist.

“Swanage inshore lifeboat was by now able to get in close enough to transfer the casualty and helicopter paramedic back to the awaiting ambulance at Kimmeridge slipway.

“With the person safely on her way to hospital by ambulance all resources were stood down and returned to station.”
