NEARLY 40 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Dorset over the last 24 hours, latest figures show.

Data released by the government shows there were 48 new cases across the county in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Monday, April 12.

In the BCP Council area, 20 cases were confirmed, taking the area’s total since the beginning of the pandemic to 25,178.

In the seven days leading up to April 7, the latest rolling seven-day period, 43 cases were confirmed in BCP, giving a rolling infection rate of 10.9 per 100,000.

The Dorset Council area recorded 18 new cases, taking the total to 11,773.

The rolling infection rate stood at 14.8 per 100,000 after 56 cases were confirmed in the past week.

Elsewhere, 10 new cases were confirmed in the New Forest, taking the area’s total to 6,124.

Across the UK, 3,568 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded, taking the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 4,373,343.
