A BUSINESS owner described the decision to close the road her hair salon is on the day she can reopen as “crazy”.

Shannon Jones, 37, runs BH Hair with business partner Lucy Clark, 30, in Charminster Road, Bournemouth.

However, she is now worried she will lose significant business as the road is set to close to traffic the day she reopens after being forced shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“They are closing the road the day I come back after a pandemic,” Shannon said.

“I was shut for such a long time, the shop has only been there maybe a year and a half, trying to start a business is difficult anyway.

“We have been shut during the pandemic, the council have been very helpful, then they go and close the road, I am fully booked and the clients have no access.

“The hard thing is there is barbers and hairdressers going up all over the place and competition is high, if they can’t get to me they will just go to someone else, it doesn’t matter if I’ve done them before because they are so desperate to get their hair done.

“It just seems like they have had plenty of time to do this, it’s like they have taken no consideration, we have a forecourt and now nobody can park on the premises.”

Shannon also said both her and her business partner have to take their children to school clubs and getting to and from work is now more complicated.

“We have ordered all our stock, we are going to have to get it through, it just makes life so much harder when we are trying our best to reopen,” she added.

“If the council could wait a week so we could get the first crazy rush through the door, I can’t see that they would do that. It just seems they had a whole year to do it, it is a crazy time to do it.”

A spokesperson for BCP Council said: “There are currently planned road maintenance works being undertaken by the council in Charminster Road. Unfortunately, the council cannot stop the maintenance and improvement of core infrastructure however every effort is made to minimise disruption caused by such works. The works are located near three schools, and is ongoing during the Easter holidays to minimise inconvenience to our residents as much as possible.

“All residents and businesses within the affected areas were contacted by letter two weeks ago explaining the locations, phases and dates of the road maintenance work.”
