DETECTIVES are investigating a reported assault in Bournemouth that allegedly saw a woman hit in the head with a baseball bat and stamped on.

An appeal has now been issued to identify two possible witnesses.

The incident occurred at around 8.10pm on Sunday, March 28 2021.

It is alleged that the victim, a woman aged in her 30s, was standing outside a row of shops on Cunningham Crescent when a man and woman got out of a silver Mercedes car and approached her.

The man reportedly struck her several times to the head with a baseball bat and the woman allegedly stamped on her arm as she lay on the ground.

It was reported that the man and woman are known to the victim.

The victim sustained two cuts to her head, bruising to her face and jaw and a bruise on her arm.

Detective Constable Phill Riggs, of Bournemouth CID, said: "Following CCTV enquiries, I have identified two people who were in the area at the time and may have witnessed what happened.

"I am appealing directly to a female teenager and a male teenager – who was riding a bicycle – to please come forward as you may have important information to assist my enquiries. I would like to make it clear that you are purely being sought as witnesses.

"I am also still keen to hear from anyone who has any information to help me with my investigation."

A 28-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man – both from Poole – have been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

The 31-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

They are both released on police bail pending further enquiries.
