THE untouched Victorian police station in Swanage is currently on the market for £1.2million and it's even got the original cells.

Like stepping into a time capsule the police station practically looks the same as it did when it ceased operations in late 2012.

Currently on the market with Corbens, the former police station is marketed at £1,200,000.

The Victorian facility opened way back in 1889 and evidence of its history can be seen from standing outside the Argyle Road premises.

This fascinating building has a stunning stone facade and even has the original cells.

The existing property has attractive elevations of natural Purbeck stone with a large car park at the rear.

The property stands on a good-sized plot of approximately 0.286 of an acre.

Planning permission has now been granted to redevelop the site and create three three-bedroom dwellings and three four-bedrooms dwellings -  in accordance with plans prepared by Dot Architecture.

The plans set out to create living accomodation in the roof space plus a large extension to the existing building.

The six dwellings are likely to be flats, as per the floor plans provided by Corbens.

Plans to make alterations and extensions to convert the building to six homes were approved by Purbeck District Council’s planning committee in December 2016.

More recently, the same applicant sought permission to make changes to these plans and this application was approved in December 2020, meaning work could be underway sooner rather than later.

Corbens have even created a video tour inside the old police station:

At the time of its closure, Dorset Police said the force needed to modernise and move closer to the town centre - leading to the creation of a joint premises with Swanage Town Council.

Services that had operated at the police station, such as document production, bail registration and surrender of firearms, were moved to Wareham after it closed in 2012.
