OVER 50 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Dorset in the latest daily update.

The government’s daily update revealed that 51 people across the county tested positive for coronavirus in the run up to 4pm on Sunday, March 7.

The BCP Council area recorded 13 new cases, taking the total since the start of the pandemic to 24,784.

In the seven days leading up to March 2, the latest rolling seven-day period, 173 cases were confirmed, giving a rolling infection rate of 43.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The Dorset Council area recorded 38 new cases, taking the total to 11,375. 

The rolling rate stood at 35.9 cases per 100,000 people with 36 cases confirmed in a week.

Elsewhere, five cases were confirmed in the New Forest, taking the total to 5,952.

The rolling rate stood at 33.9 cases per 100,000 people after 61 cases were confirmed in the week leading up to March 2.
