It’s been quite a year.

The word unprecedented has officially worn out.

We’ve seen sights we’ve never witnessed in Dorset, felt losses in our families and communities and on many occasions come together to support other people in need.

We’d like to thank you for your support over the past year. And for once again allowing us to tell your stories.

Here’s three things we’ve learnt since pandemic came to our beautiful county in 2020.

1. Our NHS is incredible

Bournemouth Echo: RBH Emergency Department

Anyone working in the NHS on the frontline anywhere are heroes. But of course, we’ve seen and witnesses our own healthcare workers exhaust themselves in the fight against Covid. We’ve told the harrowing the difficult stories of those in our hospitals, but also thankfully those who are rolling out the vaccine from GPs to volunteers.

2. We’re all really looking forward to some normality

Bournemouth Echo:

While social distancing measures could be with us in some form for some time, the pencilling in of some of our favourite events and festivals this summer has lifted the spirits no end. Even to have something to put in our diaries for a few months time is joyous. And even better will be the reopening of our pubs and restaurants, nightclubs and theatres and cinemas. We’re very much looking forward to a sunny beer garden and pints with our friends and workmates. And a haircut.

3. We’re lucky to live in Dorset

Bournemouth Echo:

Yes, everyone wants to come here as soon as the clouds part and the sun comes out. And yes, it makes the traffic terrible sometimes. But we get to be here the rest of the time and enjoy our beaches, parks, Purbeck hills, high streets, shops, food, and much more. And it supports our local economy and jobs. Here’s to sticking to the plan and opening up Dorset for the summer.
