A FAMILY business selling homemade broths, drinks and wellness products online has seen sales rocket during the pandemic.

Dorset-based Boil & Broth said January was the most successful month in its three-year history, with sales up 200per cent on the year before.

The company, in Lytchett Matravers, was founded in 2018 by Rachel Down and sells bone broths, probiotic drinks and wellness products in the UK and mainland Europe..

The pandemic saw the business relaunch its products in new pouches, add to its fermented drinks range and start a new skin care range using products that would otherwise go to waste.

In January, it released a personalised, 30-day “gut health” digestive programme which led to the founder’s latest ebook, Boost Your Gut in 30 Days.

The business has hired two more staff and says sales have tripled on many core products such as its beef bone broth. The broth uses bones from grass-fed Dorset cows and has no vegetables. The business also sells beef broth for babies and for pets.

Rachel Down said: “January was a staggeringly good month. We achieved our biggest ever sales month. In fact it’s also a 50 per cent increase on our previous best month. There is no doubt in my mind that the pandemic has certainly made people ask themselves questions about their health and wellbeing.

“More and more people are acknowledging how improving their diet can have a direct impact on the immune system. We are delighted as we passionately believe people need to take back control of their health with foods that benefit them and our planet.”

The founder is in the second year of a BSc degree in health science and intends to launch a podcast which she says will help people make better choices on nutrition and lifestyle.

“I believe there are natural solutions to most of the health problems, and it all starts in the gut,” she has written.

“Improving your digestive system by eating natural foods and taking supplements, you can reduce symptoms related to your condition and in some cases even reverse the condition completely.”
