A COMMUNITY café in Christchurch is looking for volunteers to join their team for when it reopens after the current lockdown.

The Water Lily Café is based on Barrack Road and all the proceeds from the café go to supporting The Water Lily Project, a charity supporting vulnerable women in Christchurch and the surrounding area.

The café is on the lookout for volunteer cooks and cake makers to work in the café’s kitchen, as well as cleaners, gardeners and window cleaners to improve the eatery’s décor and appearance.

Manager of The Water Lily Project Liz Carter said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have the right skills for our community café and is willing to give up some time to support our charity in this way.

“By recruiting now, we will be able to open our doors after lockdown with even more volunteers.”

As well as home-cooked food, the café also provides a safe space for all members of the community to enjoy.

Activities held at the café include Chatty Tables to help bring people together to eliminate loneliness, and Chatterbox, a multi-generational initiative which brings elderly and toddlers together for companionship.

The café is normally open Monday to Friday 10am to 1.30pm but, with more volunteers, it is hoped that it could eventually extend its hours of opening.
