NEARLY 100 more complaints about compliance with Covid rules have been made to BCP Council in just two weeks.

More than 20 were in relation to businesses being open when they should have been closed.

And the remainder involved problems with social distancing, the wearing of face coverings and general hygiene.

Councillor May Haines, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: "From February 1 to February 15, Regulatory Services received 92 complaints concerning compliance with Covid-19 regulations. There were a further 19 enquiries from businesses requiring help and advice.

"Twenty-three of the complaints concerned businesses being open when they should have been closed, with the remainder involving social distancing, the wearing of face coverings and general hygiene.

"We are grateful to the vast majority of businesses who act responsibly and continue to abide by the law during lockdown. We continue to provide essential advice and support to businesses throughout this period."

The news comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson prepares to outline how he plans to take the country slowly out of lockdown.

It has already been confirmed that care home residents will be allowed to have one regular visitor and they will be allowed to hold hands.

It is also expected that outdoor family reunions could be allowed within weeks.

But there is no news yet on when non-essential retail, gyms, hairdressers, pubs and restaurants will be allowed to open.

Schools look set to be able to open from March 8 with pupils from primary and secondary schools allowed to return to the classroom. It is understood there will be a staggered return but no details have yet been released.
