HUGE knives were seized and two men arrested by police targeting criminals in Poole town centre.

Police said the men were discovered in possession of the knives after information was passed to them by officers from the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme(CSAS).

The men are now helping police with their inquiries and officers have issued a warning to offenders operating in the town centre.

A spokesman said: "Knife crime is an extremely serious offence. Carrying knives risks a prison sentence.

"Poole South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are heavily targeting Poole Town Centre. We are employing an array of tactics to target any issues similar to this within Poole Town Centre specifically at the moment. We would encourage the public to contact Police with any concerns."

The spokesman urged members of the public to approach them or CSAS with any concerns.

"CSAS officers are regularly on foot in Poole Town centre. They work in the same office as Poole NPT and they have police radios. They are uniformed officers who work for BCP Council.

"They are very much seen within NPT as our extended colleagues. They are an extra pair of eyes and ears on the ground. Please share information with them that you feel relevant or necessary."
