DIG out your gloves and scarf. Snow is on the cards for much of Dorset this weekend, a Bournemouth forecaster has said.

DorsetSnow says the best chance of seeing wintry weather will be between 2am and 8am on Sunday.

He said: “A thin band of rain and sleet will move in from the north east on Saturday night. As the cold air from the north east undercuts this feature, it will turn readily to snow.

“Areas that see the heaviest bursts of snow could see a dusting. The main band is likely from 3am to 6am.”

A traffic light system shows how much snow areas of the county could expect.

Bournemouth Echo:

Areas in green could see “very brief” light snow, those in yellow “light snow with isolated dusting possible", while those in the red zone might expect “light to moderate snow with up to 2cm.”

Bournemouth, Swanage, Wimborne, Blandford and Ringwood all appear in the red zone.  The forecaster said that further snow showers are possible on Monday.

The Met Office has issued three-days of warnings of snow and ice for the county.

Temperatures are set to plunge from Sunday with a ‘feels like’ of -6C on Sunday night.

A cold weather alert has also been issued with an 80 per cent chance of severe cold conditions between saturday and Tuesday

At the end of last month, coastal areas of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole missed out on snow while those in east and north Dorset enjoyed a blanket of snow.

This weekend would be the first time coastal areas of Dorset have seen snow this winter.
