TEN years ago to the day, the Daily Echo ran an incredible story about a feline that had been on a mysterious adventure.
The cat was missing for almost two years before it tuurned up safe and well just over one mile from home.
The black and white long-haired cat Patsy was discovered under a lorry at a recycling plant near her former home in Queen Anne Drive, Merley.
The youngster was collected by Cats Protection and found to have a microchip which identified her as belonging to grandmother of four Carol Wright.
Carol said: “She was only three months old when she went missing. I did all the usual things – put up flyers, phoned up the RSPCA but there was nothing so I gave up.
“We never found a body which was hopeful. Then I got a phone call saying they had found my cat. I said they hadn’t because my four were all here. They said it’s Patsy. I was shocked and thought, ‘Oh my God’.”
Apart from being a bit thin and having knotted fur, the moggie was in perfect health. She quickly made herself at home on a comfy armchair and enjoyed a much needed feast.
“She is so sweet. I haven’t let her out yet and am not going to let her out for a while,” she added. “When we first got her back she ate like there was no tomorrow.”
Frank Mitchell, co-ordinator at Bournemouth and District Cats Protection, described it as “very unusual”.
He added: “It just shows the benefits of getting pets microchipped.”
