FIRE FIGHTERS were called to Sturminster Newton on the evening of Saturday January 30 after a car became stuck in flood water, with two passengers trapped inside the vehicle.

Crews from Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury Fire Stations assisted police in rescuing the stranded commuters at Hammoon near the Hambledon Hill View Campsite.

The road, between Lower Common Road and the A357, is closed to prevent any further incidents.

A spokesman from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 6.05pm on Saturday January 30, Fire Control received a call from the police to a car stuck in flood water with two people unable to get to safety.

“Fire engines from Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury Fire Stations with specialist wading teams attended the incident and assisted the people stuck inside the car to dry land.

“Highways were also requested to ensure road closure signs were put up to ensure cars didn’t enter the flood water.”
