NEARLY 300 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across Dorset in the last 24 hours, latest figures show.

Data released by the government shows 287 cases were recorded in the county in the 24 hours leading up to 4.35pm on Monday.

In the BCP Council area, 223 cases were recorded, taking the conurbation’s total since the start of the pandemic to 21,079.

The Dorset Council area recorded 64 cases, taking the total to 9,086.

In the seven days leading up to January 21, the latest rolling seven-day period, 2,558 cases were recorded in BCP, giving a rolling infection rate of 647.1 per 100,000 people.

The Dorset Council area had a rolling rate of 294.8 per 100,000, with 1,116 cases confirmed in the latest rolling seven-day period.

Elsewhere, 37 cases were recorded in the New Forest, taking the area’s total to 5,067.

The rolling rate stood at 278.2 per 100,000, with 501 cases confirmed in the week leading up to January 21.
