A WEATHER warning for ice is in force for Dorset until later this morning after temperatures plunged overnight.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather alert for the whole of the county between midnight on Sunday and 11am on Monday morning.

The Met Office has warned that icy patches may cause some travel disruption.

There is also a chance of some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

Bournemouth & Poole Weather said temperatures around 7am this morning were between -3C and -6C.

It comes after some parts of Dorset saw snow on Sunday.

However, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole missed out on the wintry scenes that were seen by residents in east and north Dorset.

Conditions on some roads across the county were described as “treacherous” with the A350 at Crawford in North Dorset impassable.

Other areas affected by snow included Charlton Marshall, Badbury Rings and Sturminster Marshall.

There was also a serious crash on the A35 between Bere Regis and Puddletown.

Explaining to why coastal areas of Dorset missed out on snowfall,Bournemouth-based forecaster Dorset Snow said: "For coastal Dorset we wanted the weather system to track slightly further south, so that we didn’t have much mixing with the air directly associated with the low pressure system.”
