St Peter’s Sixth Form students have been praised for their outstanding attitude to home -learning in lockdown.

James Wilder, Head of Sixth Form, said he has been "overwhelmed by the tenacity and resilience" shown by students and staff alike during this latest national lockdown.

He told the Echo: “When we were forced to remain closed after the Christmas break, students would have been forgiven for displaying a somewhat negative mindset towards their studies, however this has simply not materialised.

"Staff have risen to the challenge of ensuring that all Sixth Form lessons are taught in line with student’s timetables and are taught ‘live’ in order to maintain a sense of routine and ‘normailty’." he said.

"Tutors continue to be on hand to support our students pastorally and the community is really pulling together. The fact that we have submitted a record number of university applications this year, is testament to the passion our students have for their education and learning- sparked by their wonderful teachers."

He added that "although teaching remotely has its difficulties, students are getting an incredible deal and really enjoying the experience. When I asked Year 13 students how they are getting on, their responses were brilliant”.

Kate in Year 13 told the Echo: “St. Peters have been understanding throughout the experience so far, making the transition from the classroom to online lessons with very little disruption”.

Jessie, another Year 13 student added that :“The remote learning experience has been really good, due to the huge support from all of the teachers. They have been incredible in keeping us focused out of school and making sure that we don’t stress about the situation regarding exams. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from my teachers!”

Applications to join St Peter’s Sixth Form in September close this Friday, 22 January.
