AN AMESBURY man has been arrested after reports of stealing alcohol and a police pursuit through woods.

At around 1am today, January 18, Wiltshire Police officers were called to the Lidl on London Road after an alarm was activated.

It was alleged that a quantity of alcohol was stolen from the supermarket.

As officers approached the store they noticed a man crossing the road, walking towards a wooded area opposite.

Officers pursued on foot and the man was stopped exiting the woods near to the Folly Bottom bridge, over the A303.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The man, in his 30s, was taken to Melksham Police Station where he remains in custody.
