MORE than 900 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Dorset in the latest update from the government.

Data released late on Thursday, January 14, shows 907 cases were confirmed across the county since the previous update on Wednesday afternoon.

In the BCP Council area, 649 new cases were confirmed, taking the total since the start of the pandemic to 16,590.

In the seven days leading up to January 9, the latest rolling seven-day period, 3,524 cases were confirmed, giving a rolling case rate of 891.4 per 100,000 people.

The Dorset Council area recorded 258 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total top 7,264.

The rolling rate stood at 333.2 per 100,000, with 1,261 cases confirmed in the latest rolling seven-day period.

On Wednesday, 501 cases were confirmed in Dorset.

Elsewhere, 104 cases were confirmed in the New Forest, meaning 4,198 people have tested positive there since the start of the pandemic.

The rolling rate was 418.1 per 100,000, with 753 cases recorded in seven days.

Across the United Kingdom, the daily updates on Thursday, January 14, recorded 1,248 Covid deaths and 48,682 new positive coronavirus tests.
