BOURNEMOUTH East MP Tobias Ellwood has backed calls for a Minister or envoy for hospitality in the UK government.
He was one of 20 MPs wo took part in a 90-minute debate about the future of the industry.
He told participants: "I was the shadow Minister for tourism when I first came into Parliament. I wanted that job to continue when we went into government, but the size of Government restricts the number of Ministers it is possible to have."
He said that if it is not possible to create a Ministerial position, an envoy would give a voice to the sector.
At the end of the debate there was a unanimous vote in favour of creating a Minister for hospitality.
The hospitality industry has seen the loss of thousands of jobs and the collapse of businesses across the UK since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
