POLICE arrested a 51-year-old man from Bournemouth after reports of an assault with a knife in Westbourne.

Officers were called to Portarlington Road at 3.30pm on Wednesday after two men, who are known to each other, got into an altercation which resulted in one man sustaining a minor injury to his arm, which was treated at the scene.

The ambulance service was also called to the scene and police closed the road was to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

A police spokesman said: “Dorset Police was called at 3.30pm on Wednesday January 6, 2021 to a report of a disturbance involving two men at an address on Portarlington Road in Bournemouth.

“It is reported that one of the men was assaulted by the other man who was in possession of a knife. They did not sustain any serious injuries.

“The other man sustained a minor injury to his arm and was treated at the scene. The two men are known to each other.

“Officers attended with the ambulance service and closed the road to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

“A 51-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of a knife or a bladed article in a public place and assault. He is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.”
