POLICE officers warned drivers to be careful on the roads last night, after revealing that the force had already attended "a number of" car crashes earlier in the evening.

One incident included a car leaving the road and ending up in a ditch along the A36, pictured.

This happened at around 5pm yesterday.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a vehicle that had left the road and come to rest in a ditch beside the A36 Churchill Way South, Salisbury.

"The driver appeared not to have significant injuries but was taken to hospital as a precaution."

In a statement from Wiltshire Police yesterday, January 2, it said: "Please be safe this evening and through the night if you intend on driving. The roads are already very wet and temperatures are plummeting below zero tonight.

"We have already been to a number of road traffic collisions this evening. Please adjust your speed accordingly to the road conditions and do not treat the speed limit as a target."
