MORE than 600 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Dorset and the New Forest in a 24-hour period.

Government statistics reveal a further 367 cases in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area as of 4pm on January 1, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 10,027.

A further 157 in the Dorset Council area brings the total to 4,689 and there have also been 99 more cases recorded in the New Forest with a total of 2,852.

The rolling seven day rate has increased in all three areas along with cases per 100,000 head of population.

They stand at 273.7 in BCP, 155.9 in Dorset and 189.4 in the New Forest.
