A DRIVER'S actions within a minute of setting off in his car to head home from a night out in Bournemouth led to a shocking head-on crash on a town centre flyover.
Calvin Kwadwo Nyamekye was jailed for eight months at Bournemouth Crown Court having admitted a charge of dangerous driving in relation to events of February 9, 2019.
Nyamekye, aged 31 and of North Road, Poole, left Halo nightclub with a group of people and got into his Volvo XC90 in the early hours.
He set off up Exeter Road and within less than a minute he was involved in the horror collision.
As he made his way around the perimeter of BH2 hospitality and cinema complex, Nyamekye overtook a red taxi on a blind bend before approaching the BIC Roundabout at speed.
CCTV footage showed him speeding through the junction and making his way towards Pier Approach heading eastbound.
Meanwhile, pizza delivery driver Daniel Mocanu, at the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa, was making his way along Bath Road from the Bath Hill Roundabout towards the flyover on the westbound side of the road.
Having passed the BIC, Nyamekye reached the start of Bath Road from Exeter Road he crossed the centre white line and was on the wrong side of the road.
Mr Mocanu had made it to the flyover that runs alongside the Bournemouth Observation Wheel when the Volvo crashed into his vehicle at high speed.
On the CCTV footage, the rear of the XC90 can be seen lifting into the air and eventually ending up on its roof sliding along the road surface.
Meanwhile, the Vauxhall, which sustained extensive damage, was driven backwards by the impact and spun out to face eastwards on the opposite side of the road to which Mr Mocanu had been travelling seconds earlier.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and, somewhat miraculously, no one was seriously injured.
At hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on November 6, Recorder Alexia Power jailed Nyamekye for eight months and disqualified him from driving for two years.
