A MAN who stole whisky, meat steaks and designer handbags from stores across Bournemouth has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

Michael Baranski was in the dock at Poole Magistrates’ Court on November 24 after carrying out four thefts, obstructing a police officer, failing to surrender to custody having been bailed twice and committing some of these crimes while subject to a court order.

Baranski, aged 33, stole four Michael Kors handbags, with an overall value of £539.96, across January 31 and February 4 from TK Maxx.

On February 3, he took three bottles of Bells Whisky, worth £51, from Sainsbury’s without paying.

He failed to appear at court on February 18 and September 11 before stealing five steaks from Co-op in Castle Lane West and obstructed PC Chapman in the execution of her duty on November 22.

The defendant, whose address was given as Barrack Road, Christchurch, was sentenced on Tuesday having admitted all of the offences along with the breach of a conditional discharge order made in August last year for five thefts and failing to surrender to custody.

District judge Stephen Nicholls handed Baranski a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, along with financial penalties of a £128 surcharge and £85 costs.
