UNIVERSITY students are being asked to travel home during a specific time period to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

It comes after the Gov confirmed the nation's second lockdown will end on December 2.

But what is the Student Travel Window?

Well we've put together all you need to know.

WHEN DO I NEED TO TRAVEL HOME?

The Gov is asking all university students to travel home between Thursday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 9.

It says that this is to ensure that students are already home by the end of the winter term "but also reduce any transmission risk".

Students who have tested positive or been notified by the NHS test and trace system won't be able to travel until after they have finished isolating.

The Gov adds that universities will be carrying out rapid Covid 'swab antigen tests' to check students before they are allowed to travel home. These results are available within an hour of testing.

Daily Echo:

WHY BY DECEMBER 9?

Ministers say that they have asked all universities to end face-to-face learning for the winter term by December 9 "at the latest".

All teaching from this date to the end of term will be moved online.

They say this date has been chosen as the cut-off date so that any students who may develop symptoms that day, or be identified as a close contact to someone that has, be allowed enough time to complete self-isolation before Christmas.

Daily Echo:

BUT WHAT IF I GO HOME AFTER DECEMBER 9?

The Gov says that those students who do not return home by December 9 "will be advised to undertake a further period of restricted contact" either before or after returning home to "minimise risk of transmission".

I WON'T BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE UNI FROM HOME - WHAT CAN I DO?

Students who are unable to access online learning or continue their studies at home should be supported to do so at university.
