COASTGUARDS searched the sea near Southbourne after reports that a kitesurfer was in difficulty.
They were alerted by the national maritime operations centre at 2.20pm yesterday and searched an area between Hengistbury Head and Fisherman's Walk.
No one was found and teams were stood down after they concluded the person had left the sea themselves. Coastguards said it was a false alarm with good intent.
