A SECONDARY school forced to close to all pupils after a gas leak left it with no heating or hot water won’t reopen until Monday.

Queen Elizabeth's School in Wimborne was shut today after a gas leak meant the gas supply to the school temporarily stopped.

In an email to parents on Thursday, November 19, head teacher Katie Boyes said: "There has been a local gas leak and as a result the gas supply to school has been temporarily stopped.

"The lack of gas means that we are unable to supply heating, hot water or run the air handling system which provides the ventilation to the building. As a result the school is unable to open to students."

In an update on Thursday evening, Ms Boyes said: "We have had contractors working all day to try and resolve the issue. The fault has been identified however the contractors have not been able to fix this and carry out the necessary safety checks to restore the gas supply to the site.

"We are therefore still unable to supply heating, hot water or run the air handling system which provides the ventilation to the building.

“As a result the school is unable to open to students on Friday 20th November. The contractors are confident that the work will be completed by the end of the day tomorrow which will mean that we can open fully to all students on Monday 23rd November."
