A CYCLIST escaped with minor injuries after smashing his head on a car windscreen, shattering the glass.

Police attended a crash in Wimborne Road, Winton last night involving a car and a cyclist.

A spokesperson for the Dorset Police No Excuse team said: “The vehicle was travelling from the Moordown direction to Winton turning into Jameson Road when it collided with a cyclist who was travelling downhill past the Winton police station to Moordown.

“The first the driver knew was when she was covered in glass, the cyclist was hit and went across the bonnet and his head smashed the windscreen, the cyclist was all in black, no helmet or lights, the bike is not repairable.

“The 18-year-old rider luckily only escaped with minor injuries, as you can see by the pictures below, he hit the windscreen with some force.

“In these circumstances we gather all the information and a decision will be made by our crash desk team who investigate if any offences were committed.

“The rider went off to hospital to be checked over, the driver was not injured.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 6.15pm on Wednesday November 18.

"Officers attended, along with the ambulance service. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
