FOUR people fled the scene after a VW Golf smashed into a parked Volvo in West Howe.

Police were called to Mandale Road after the Golf was abandoned in the middle of the road on Saturday night.

Now officers are trying to find out who was driving.

The Volvo had been pushed up the road by the impact and officers were told four people got out of the Golf and ran away.

Seven people who have appeared in the dock

Officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team discovered the Golf was not insured.

Now they have contacted the registered keeper and issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution under Section 172 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act.

The registered keeper has to provide details in writing of who was driving the vehicle at the time within 28 days.

Failing to provide the driver's identity carries six penalty points and a fine up to £1000.
