Weymouth is on alert for flooding amid warnings of a 'large tidal surge' at the harbour today and tomorrow.
The Enrivonment Agency (EA) warns that a large tidal surge is forecast as a result of high tides almost two metres above average sea level, and strong winds.
Residents are warned of flooding at roads around the harbour area and River Wey at high tide this evening and tomorrow morning.
The EA warns of flooding at high tide at around 5:45pm today with a level of 1.84 metres above sea level and a Force 7 south westerly wind.
Tomorrow morning high water is also forecast around 6:30am tomorrow with a level of 1.84 metres above sea level and a Force 7 south westerly wind.
An EA spokesman said: "Flooding to roads is possible at these times, however conditions may apply one to two hours either side of the high tide.
"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Weymouth Harbour and the tidal stretch of the River Wey. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences.
"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses."
