FIREFIGHTERS from across Dorset were called to tackle a blaze at a three-storey property in Shaftesbury.

The incident on Bell Street was reported to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service at around 8.40pm on Sunday night.

Two fire crews from Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton attended along with crews from Gillingham and Tisbury as well as an aerial ladder platform from Salisbury and a support unit from Sherborne.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Bell Street, Shaftesbury at 8.39pm last night for a fire in an end terraced three storey building.

"Eight breathing apparatus wearers used three hose reel jets and a main jet - there were concerns that the fire may have spread through the roof void to the neighbouring property, and roof tiles were stripped away to check the fire was completely out. The stop came at 10.56pm, and all crews were away by 1am."

A crew from Shaftesbury returned this morning to carry out a reinspection.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by an electrical fault.
