NEIGHBOURS have spoken of their shock after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car parked in a Southampton street.

People living at Woodside Road in Portswood say eight police cars and three ambulances arrived within minutes of the crash, which resulted in the street being closed for five hours.

Paramedics battled to save the biker's life but he died at the scene.

Daily Echo:

The accident occurred at around midday on Saturday, when a black Suzuki motorcycle collided with a stationary Toyota. Flowers have been left at crash site.

Following the collision, barriers were placed across Woodside Road at its junction with Tennyson Road and its two junctions with Thackeray Road. Police also taped off part of Woodside Road itself.

Towards the end of the afternoon the two vehicles involved in the crash were loaded aboard a recovery lorry and taken away.

Shortly afterwards a bouquet was left Woodside Court, close to the spot where the accident happened. Other floral tributes were added later.

Daily Echo:

Woodside Road resident Patricia Gardiner said: "There was a cordon and then another cordon - and then another cordon.

"I knew something bad had happened because the police don't barricade a road for no reason but I didn't know someone had died - that's awful."

Mrs Gardiner said the road was closed for several hours.

She added: "I didn't hear an accident and I didn't see anyone hurt but I noticed a black car being placed on the back of a recovery vehicle. Earlier I'd seen a car up on the pavement."

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police were called to the collision just after midday on Saturday.

"A man was riding a black Suzuki motorcycle when it was in collision with a stationary black Toyota car. Despite the best efforts of the ambulance crew, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"We are investigating the exact circumstances of the collision and are keen to speak to anyone with information.

"Were you in the area at the time? Perhaps you saw a black motorcycle in the run-up to the collision or maybe you have dash-cam footage?"

Anyone with information can call Hampshire police on 101, quoting Operation SIP.
