A DRIVER stopped for having defective lights accidentally locked his keys in the vehicle after being escorted to a safe place by police.
Officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team issued a prohibition notice after escorting the vehicle to a location where it could be left overnight.
A police spokesman said: "The evening got worse for the driver, who’d had to arrange a lift to get home, when they locked their car key in the ignition barrel and with the interior and front main beam lamps illuminated."
The vehicle was stopped near Sherborne.
