Dorset’s coronavirus hotspots according to latest data

The map, which forms part of the government’s coronavirus dashboard, gives weekly data for the most recent time period available.

It also includes seven day case rates and direction of change.

The figures in this article gives the seven-day rolling rate of new cases by specimen date, ending October 10.

The layout of the map has changed since we previously reported on these figures two weeks ago, with the key colours much more varied now.

In the map, you can search via postcode to see the situation in your area.

The country is split up by Middle Super Output Area (MSOA), which are small areas with an average population of 7,200.

In the BCP area for the week leading up to October 10, two areas are in the top rate – East Cliff and Central Bournemouth.

East Cliff had 61 lab-confirmed cases in the seven-day timeframe with a seven-day rolling rate of 474.2.

Central Bournemouth had 80 cases and their seven-day rolling rate was 615.9.

Neighbouring areas, Talbot and Branksome Woods and Winton were in the second highest rate level Talbot had 27 new cases with Winton recording 34. Their rolling seven-day rates were 388 and 356 respectively.

It is a varying picture in Christchurch, according to the figures, with Christchurch town centre having 14 cases but most other areas still seeing low case numbers within this time period.

Iford has nine cases, Littledown seven, Southbourne West 13, Boscombe East 11 and Boscombe West 12.

Case numbers in Springbourne and Queen’s Park are in single figures with nine. And although Townsend and Strouden have even fewer cases with seven, their case rate is higher, according to the map.

Areas of West Cliff, Branksome Park, and Canford Cliffs all display low case numbers, while Poole Town has 17 cases, Parkstone 12 and Penn Hill 11.

Elsewhere in Poole, Oakdale East also has only six cases, but again Canford Heath East has eight but a higher case rate. Rossmore has 12, Newtown 11, Bearwood six and Hamworthy West eight.

Creekmoor and Broadstone both have low rates, with five cases each.

Further afield, Bere Regis and Morden have six cases but a seven day rolling rate of 101. Dorchester West and Poundbury and Dorchester East both have higher rates as well with 16 and 23 cases.

The rest of the county are still displaying low cases and rates, the data suggests.

This week, Public Health Dorset said an AMBER alert had been issued following a sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 cases across Dorset.

The alert has been issued through the Dorset Covid-19 Health Protection Board after 635 positive tests across the county in just seven days.

Sam Crowe, director of public health for BCP and Dorset councils, said over the summer, Dorset was recording 10 to 15 cases per day across both council areas.
