A CAR was completely destroyed in a fire after leaving the road and colliding into a tree in an early morning crash.
Firefighters from Sherborne Fire Station arrived at 6.30am on Tuesday (October 13) to a road on the outskirts of Corton Denham in Somerset.
On arrival, the crew discovered the car was alight after leaving the road through a fence and colliding with a tree.
Firefighters extinguished the vehicle using one hose reel jet and small tools.
Photos taken at the scene show the car was completely gutted by the blaze while there was some minor fire damage in the surrounding area.
Sherborne Fire Station say the driver was not at the incident and crews used a thermal imaging camera to inspect the hedgerows and fields to confirm there were no occupants missing.
Police officers were also called to the incident in order to locate the driver.
A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police said: We received a call from the fire service at 6.40am on Tuesday, October 13 regarding an abandoned car on fire near Corton Denham, Somerset.
"It's believed the car was in collision with a tree prior to catching fire. The driver of the vehicle has not been identified."
