MORE than 85 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Dorset over the last 24 hours, latest figures show.

According to data released by government, 86 people returned positive tests for the virus in the county in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm today.

In the BCP Council area, 65 people tested positive, meaning there has been 1,684 cases since the start of the pandemic.

This gives an infection rate since the start of the pandemic of 426 per 100,000 people.

21 people tested positive in the Dorset Council area, meaning 953 people have had confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

This gives an infection rate of 251.8 per 100,000.

Elsewhere, ten people tested positive in the New Forest.

695 cases have now been confirmed in the New Forest, a rate of 385.9 per 100,000 people.
