A POOLE man was caught speeding at 89mph on a motorbike through a section of motorway that was subject to a reduced limit.

Christopher Schofield, aged 52, was riding a Suzuki on the westbound carriageway of the M27 between junction five and four near Eastleigh on August 23 last year in excess of the 50mph speed limit.

This temporary measure has been in place since the early part of 2019 for a large section of the Hampshire road while Highways England convert it into a smart motorway.

Schofield, whose address was given as Penn Hill Avenue, appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on September 23, having been convicted of the speeding offence at an earlier hearing.

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £32 surcharge and £85 costs.

The defendant was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 21 days.
