BOURNEMOUTH University’s Freshers’ Fair has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers of the event, the Students’ Union at Bournemouth University (SUBU), have said that it was “the best decision” in order to keep staff, students and the community safe.

However, the event , which was due to take place on Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27, will take place at a new arranged date, yet to be decided, in a similar format.

In a statement released on Bournemouth University’s Student Union website, SUBU said: “ With the latest Government guidance, and the announcement of further restrictions this week, as well as changing Covid-19 infection rates, we felt that this is the best decision in order to continue to protect BU students, staff, and the local community.

“The event was well planned and was set to take place in a Covid-secure way, with scrutiny and approval from both BCP Council and Public Health England.

“Our decision today has been taken with the best interests of students in mind.

“We are grateful to all those who were involved in the planning of this event. The event will take place at a future date – to be announced – in a similar format.

“We are actively planning other arrivals activities – in-person and virtual – so that you are able to make new friends and meet fellow students.

“We are as committed as ever to helping you start your journey at BU, to feel supported, and form new friendships, with a range of information available on our website.”
