A man and woman have denied the manslaughter of a Weymouth pensioner in the first day of a Crown Court trial.
Dorset Police were called at 10.17am on Saturday, September 7 last year by the ambulance service following the death of 75-year-old John Cornish at his home on The Esplanade, to the rear of Alexandra Gardens.
Following an investigation, Aaron Kirk Brown, 38, and from Weymouth, and 28-year-old Hannah Jayne Rebecca Day, of no fixed address, were arrested.
Brown and Day appeared at Winchester Crown Court yesterday and each pleaded not guilty to a charge of manslaughter and attempted robbery.
Hannah Day has also entered not guilty pleas to a charge of theft and five counts of fraud by false representation.
It is alleged that Day stole one of Mr Cornish's bank cards back in May 2019, before using it on five occasions across two days.
Day and Brown are both accused of attempting to rob bank cards and cash from Mr Cornish on September 6 2019.
The trial continues at Winchester Crown Court.
