TWO groups of students at a Wimborne school have been asked to self-isolate following confirmed cases of coronavirus.

The headteacher of Queen Elizabeth’s (QE) School contacted parents on Sunday evening to inform them two people in Year 9 had tested positive for COVID-19.

Students in Year 9 York and Stuart House have now been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

The school in Blandford Road will remain open for all other students.

Headteacher Katie Boyes sent two letters two parents detailing the situation.

The second of these said: “Following my previous letter, at 9.15pm we have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a second confirmed case of COVID-19 within Queen Elizabeth’s School.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

“The person with a positive test is in Year 9 York House and was last in school on Tuesday, September 8. Following my previous message I can confirm that the students in Year 9 York and Stuart House have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

“The school will remain open for all other students during this period. The school has been working closely with our team at Public Health England South West and Dorset Council to ensure high standards of hygiene and social distancing are maintained and ensuring all the necessary measures are in place.”

An initial letter to parents said the first person with a positive test is in Year 9 Stuart House and was last in school on Thursday, September 10.
