As reported on the Daily Echo website previously, parking on pavements could be banned across England.

The Government plans to make journeys easier for disabled people and parents pushing prams.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on three options in relation to pavement parking; extend the London-style ban nationwide, make it easier for councils to prohibit pavement parking and give councils the power to fine offenders.

An open consultation has been launched and will run until November 22, 2020.

Transport minister Baroness Vere of Norbiton said: “Pavement parking has been prohibited in London since 1974. While successive governments have recognised there is no perfect solution to this complex problem, I believe it is time to look again at this issue in detail.

“Following the DfT’s detailed review of pavement parking and the government’s response to the Transport Committee’s 2019 report on pavement parking (published 12 March 2020) this consultation seeks your views on some options to help local authorities to tackle this problem.”
