A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy from Boscombe has been recognised for his “dedication and natural ability” having picked up the game of bowls only last year.

In 2019, Boscombe Cliff Bowling Club invited a group of eight-year-olds from Pokesdown Community Primary School to come to try bowls.

One of them, Harry Kingsley, was particularly keen and was spotted by coach Derrick Pavey as being a natural bowler.

Harry has since been commended for his commitment to the sport, having joined Bournemouth Indoor Bowls Club in the winter where he got more coaching before returning to join Boscombe Cliff Bowling Club this summer.

Club President Wendy Harvey said: “Because of Covid-19, he has only just started coming back for weekly lessons with Derrick.

“Derrick and the whole of BCBC have been so impressed by his play and dedication to the game that Derrick has arranged for him to be presented with a special trophy

“We would love for this very special youngster to help encourage more youngsters to take up bowls, and hopefully for our club to start a youth team next year.”
