A CASUALTY in "considerable pain" after a coasteering accident at Dancing Ledge was rescued by Swanage and St Albans lifeboat crews.

Lifeboats were launched following a call for help at 11.16am yesterday.

A spokesman for Swanage lifeboat said: "The casualty was on a sea-level ledge just west of Dancing Ledge and a crew member from the Swanage inshore lifeboat was put ashore to help with initial assessment and care.

"The inshore lifeboat got more equipment from the all-weather lifeboat, including pain-relieving gas as the casualty was in considerable pain.

"An extraction by sea was deemed the safest and simplest option, so the casualty and another member of the party were taken via inshore lifeboat to the all-weather lifeboat and a steady trip back to Swanage began.

"When in Swanage the casualty was placed into the care of Dorset ambulance paramedics and taken to Poole."
