Flash flooding caused disruption across the county including on the A35 Dorchester Bypass.

The road had to be closed eastbound after Football Ground Roundabout due to flooding. Bypass traffic was diverted through Dorchester town centre and rejoin the A35 at Stinsford Roundabout.

Elsewhere, around a foot of water was reported in Sandbanks Road.

Footage has also been shared on social media of what weather enthusiast Bournemouth & Poole Weather has described as “tornadic activity”.

The short clip appears to show a waterspout at Branksome beach. Bournemouth & Poole Weather said: “Given the little pockets of damage there may well have been a couple of different little spin up tornadoes.”

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for Dorset warning of thunderstorms and more heavy rain today.
